Prime Minister Mark Carney’s promise to lift major tariff restrictions on Chinese electric vehicles is poised to give China a major share of Canada’s EV market, according to federal data.
Who cares?? There is virtually zero market for EVs in Canada, other than a few green zealots in Vancouver, and in the gta. They dont get very far in Saskatchewan in the winter, or anywhere that gets below -15C.
No issue with your opinion of Carney, and I'm not sure about Chinese vehicles because of the potential for electronic data going back to China.
But as far as "who in their right mind would own one in Canada".........
I have owned an EV for 7 winters in Winnipeg. It is by far the best winter car I've ever owned. Always warm and ready to go when I leave home, and if it's cold I just leave the heater on wherever I park. Plenty of range to do that even driving around all day in -30, and just plug it in when I get home.
They're not for every situation. If you can't plug in at home, or you regularly take long road trips in winter, stick with. a gas car. But otherwise they rock.
Carney continues to cozy up to a communist regime to the detriment of all Canadians but you can bet Brookfield will be involved thus Carney will continue to milk Canadians
Back when Carny was elected He indicated that he would cancel the EV mandate. Of course he never did that. But if we are smart. No one should purchase these Chinese products that Carny is letting into the country. Do your homework on these EV’s before making your decision.
Don't get so upset at this. The way to correct this is too not buy Chinese EV's and then it is fixed. How Carney did this is very sneaky. Which is what Carney is, VERY SNEAKY.
As we really don't produce any quantity of TVs in Canada, what industry are we trying to protect? Are we really concerned if they cut into the Tesla market?

Just one thing...
Who in their right mind wants an EV from anybody given Canada's climate.
Who in their right mind wants an EV designed to spy on you and send info back to China.
Who.... OH.. That would be a liar and a fraud who is Canada's PM.
Perhaps a buffoon in Ontario who has dug his own deep hole and can't hide in it.
Perhaps being ordered to buy one (lots of luck with that one Carney).
We shall see but you do know that China needed a place to dump all those EV's they have been unable to get rid of.
Carney was simply a willing dupe in China's continued manipulation of those who can be fooled.
And as for Carney.. Let' just leave it a FOOL.
Sadly... He leads Canada and has been given the powers of a Dictator by Canada's foolish Parliament who were also Fooled.
You seem to have a theme of fools in Canada's Governing systems don't you?

They may be practical in some situations and you described one.
Where I was in OntArWeOwe they were not practical for anybody who had to travel anywhere.
There were three people I knew on the street who owned a Tesla and I got to drive a couple of them and they were fun to drive.
However of the three who owned them only one still has it.
The other two went back to gas powered as they travelled to work which was some distance away.
The guy who still has one only travels close to home and he did say the same thing with respect to winter and what you said about charging.
As for information from Chinese EV's going back to China.
100% confirmed that they spy on a lot of things including your phone etc. and sent the info back to China 100% of the time.
Also apparently could eavesdrop on texts and conversations again shown in all Chinese EVs.
