Ontario court files were hacked during a major cybersecurity breach involving software used in the province’s $166-million court digitization project.
The breach affected records from the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. Ontario contracted Thomson Reuters to provide the $166 million Courts Digital Transformation project.
The project was developed to replace several disconnected court technologies with one integrated system for filing documents, managing cases and scheduling hearings. It includes C-Track, a web-based case management system that replaced the province’s older platform.
The company said some affected records may contain names and personal information, while confidential, redacted or sealed information “may have been impacted.”
