Google revolts against Bill C-22, warns Canadians of mass surveillance

In a submission to the House of Commons committee, the tech giant said it had “significant concerns” about the "surveillance infrastructure" imposed by Bill C-22.

Another major tech company is publicly opposing the Liberal government’s surveillance law, Bill C-22. Google says the Liberals’ Bill C-22 would create a “surveillance infrastructure” that could provide more fodder for foreign interference and “decrease overall user security, by creating backdoors that would break end-to-end encryption.”

In a submission to a House of Commons committee, the tech giant said it had “significant concerns” that the proposed legislation would weaken cybersecurity while neglecting users’ privacy.
