General Motors Canada is cutting “approximately 500 employees” from its Oshawa Assembly plant by eliminating the third shift, reportedly ramping up production south of the border to dodge U.S. tariffs.
The plan to downsize staff at GM’s Oshawa plant, returning to two shifts of production, was announced in May last year. Unifor, which represents the workers, says the impact is significantly higher than the company’s estimate.
