Global Affairs Canada spent $59k on artwork for Milan consulate building
Taxpayer advocates are sounding the alarm after Global Affairs Canada spent $59,000 on “artwork” for Canada’s consulate building in Milan, including a boot purchased from a thrift store.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a government waste watchdog and taxpayer advocacy group, is calling out Canada’s foreign affairs ministry after records revealed the department spent $59,000 to decorate its consulate in Milan, Italy.
The records obtained primarily through an Order Paper Question in the House of Commons by Conservative MP Vincent Ho show pieces of art include an “upcycled” pink cowboy boot purchased at a thrift store and a mitten on a stick.
