A wealth man bought a mercedes, then he loses his job, but he didn't tell his family. He tries to be rich still, borrowing to pay for his mercedes upkeep. That man is the Canadian govt, the family is Canadians, the mercedes is the goverment itself (health service especially). Canada is poor, it can't afford it's established system, yet the government and the people still think it's rich.

Great article clearly laying out the insanity of purchasing the Swedish Gripen. We have currently 3,000 jobs from the F-35 and would lose them if Carney goes for the Gripen plus Trump would never forgive him and us which means he would trip us up at every opportunity. That is why every other country is buying Trump's plane.

Excellent comment. Their are two key points in the article that are worth noting:

1) unproven aircraft with a small user base

2) Canada’s defense decisions must be guided by the men and women who will fly these jets into harm’s way

Large international F35 user base makes it easier to scramble CAF F35s to support allied groups. Until the CAF maintenance crews and spare parts arrive at the remote airfield, the on-site alley crews can service the CAF F35s. Also, there is cross training between veteran F35 pilots and the CAF's pilots and maintenance crews.

The second point is self explanatory.

If you mean the F-35 as Trumps Plane. It is Stealth. It can out preform and fly circles around the outdated Gripen. Now why on earth would we not get one of the best jets out there from out Neighbour and Friends. The only reason our liberal government would even think of it is; it will put money in their pockets. I am so tired of this Canada killing GREEN government of ours. Time long pass do for a change. The party who killed something will never fix it no matter how many LIES the tell you.

Uriah Heep Carney will do anything he can to harm the USA. That is his mission as Viceroy to the Canadian 13 colonies. Until Canadians understand that, they will remain perplexed.

It is passing strange that 'Perfidious Albion' (AKA The UK, Britain, Great Britain, The United Kingdom etc) created 13 provinces and territories in Canada, the land they kept from joining the US - which had exactly 13 'rebelled' colonies.

Satan works his wonders in many ways but he always leaves a 'tell'.

👍Franz.... Canada is just a "resource" to be looted by the City of London... most of the population here has just been so brainwashed in our Marxist school system and left media they think we are actually "superior" to Americans.

This is on full display at so many family bbq's

Who knows what silly game the Carney show is playing.

What is important is what does the CAF want.

The F35 should be ordered for all of the reasons laid out by countless experts.

What we should be talking about is a commitment to a sixth generation fighter.

Not a 40 year old Ikea plane.

Look, the only thing you have to compare is the level of intelligence in Canada's government versus the rest of the world and it's our fault, we elected them. This dope in Ottawa thinks he's some kind of European nobility or something. His head is not where it should be. Thanks to the cowardly NDP, we're stuck with him and his WEF manifesto. The F-35 is the only plane to buy for all the right reasons but common sense and business sense, is not the strong point of the Liberal government.

A high ranking pilot in the Canadian Airforce openingly chatted amoung a small group of us several years ago. In his mind and apparently all Canadian Air Force pilots minds the F-35 even at its very high price was the only choice period, that made sense. Any thing else was already too far behind. Also it was made clear by him and subsequently by an Air Force maintenance specialist we chatted with stated that a mixed fleet of fighters would be totally ridiculous and a logistical nightmare that would end badly.

The F35 appears to be the best fighter aircraft in the world ; We signed up for it and Trump is not going to be around after the next four years and we have always bought American aircraft mostly because they produce great aircraft. I think there are huge risks buying from Sweden as we have been linked to America from the hip. The Trump thing is just a bump in what is normally a smooth road. WE have more in common with the Americans than any other country in the world. The EU and England have turned into a bunch of socialist Neo communists that have been bowing to the UN and the WEF. Buying an unknown aircraft like the SAAB will be a colossal mistake The only reason this came up is due to the nut bar in the PM's office.... he considers himself a European and personally I do not trust this grifter.

I agree with virtually everything you covered, Keane, but the fact of the matter is, fighter jets are now seldom used in modern warfare as demonstrated in the current conflict in the Ukraine. Canada would be far better off and at much less expense to develop a high tech drone system. Far more practical much less costly!

Really? All this hue and cry? Canada is, at times, unable to purchase ammunition for its army on foreign deployment. Those same soldiers have also been forced to purchase their own meals.

Today, our Army, Navy, and Air Force are about as effective as Tinker Toys. This is entirely due to Liberal neglect that borders on treason.

I had the honour of serving in Canada's Navy a very long time ago. This was before military unification. Back then, all three branches were professional, with a solid international reputation.

Today, our military is viewed by former allies through sad and downcast eyes.

Buying fighter jets, from any manufacturer, will not even begin to fix Canada's military.

It's difficult to see Carny flirting with Sweden's Gripen as anything but another stick in Trump's eye. Regardless of whether or not we buy the F-35.

Carny has on several occasions, proven himself inadequate on the international political stage. He has mimicked his juvenile predecessor's policy of dealing with Trump by insults and stick-poking. This will turn out to be a very expensive stick. Paid for by, guess who.

Think what you will about Trump but eventually he will go away, and the Unites States will remain our geographic neighbour.

And when Trump is gone, the USA will not forget all these sharp sticks. As a young man, I lived and worked in the US for 24 years. Americans love their President, regardless of political affiliation. Actually, it's probably more correct to say they love their Presidency. Similar to how the British revere their Royalty.

Canada can point all ten fingers at the US for any number of things, and some of them would be on target. But when you're in a relationship with someone - particularly one as close as ours with the USA, you don't conduct it with insults and sharp sticks. The insults, btw, were started by none other than our outgoing PM, Captain Blackface.

And while on the subject of still deriding Trump and poking that bear with a sharp stick, Canadians voted to keep Justin Trudeau in power for a decade. Shall I list his scandals and inadequacies?
