European leaders are toying with the bizarre idea of Canada joining the European Union, a move they claim would bolster their geopolitical and economic power.

France’s foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Canada may join the European Union “at some point,” adding that “nine countries are formally candidates to EU accession today.”
