Former Natural Resources scientist charged with data breach involving China
Canadian Security and Intelligence Service had briefed Natural Resources Canada about Dennis Lu at least three times between 2000 and 2021, which went ignored.
A long-time public servant has been charged with sharing sensitive information with China. Dennis Lu, 65, faces charges in relation to two counts of unauthorized use of a computer and one count of breach of trust relating to his federal duties.
Lu was employed as a federal scientist with Natural Resource Canada’s Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology for decades, during which time he allegedly shared more than 2,000 documents from a departmental server with China.
