A former Quebec correctional officer has been re-arrested on multiple sex-assault and child porn charges after previously being released by a judge.
Quebec City police arrested Steve Pelletier, 54, at around 6 a.m. on Thursday at his residence in the Charlesbourg area.
A retired correctional officer, who was already released on previous sexual charges, Pelletier now faces several new sexual charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference, and production and possession of child pornography.
He is currently in custody and appeared at a Quebec City courthouse on Thursday.
Pelletier had previously been released on various conditions concerning similar charges four years ago.
Pelletier’s conditions included not being allowed to communicate or being within 200 metres of the complainant. He was also required to report to police authorities once a week and to observe a curfew at his home in Charlesbourg, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
He was also required by the judge to refrain from consuming any drugs or alcohol and undertake any therapies deemed necessary by a social worker.
Several victims were identified during the most recent investigation into Pelletier’s alleged activities, and so a serial crime management centre by the Sûreté du Québec was deployed to deal with Pelletier’s case.
The unit is a unified command structure within which Quebec police services work together to quickly identify and apprehend serial offenders, including predators. This provincial coordination therefore allows for the pooling of police resources and aims to better protect victims.
So drugs and alcohol contribute to sexual assaults? Methinks the judge thinks that petty interruptions in Pelletier's existence is a cure. The real cause is the corruption in functioning of a brain.
