Formal G7 Carney-Trump meeting fails to materialize
When pressed on why no bilateral meeting with U.S. President Trump took place, Prime Minister Mark Carney answered, “There’s no message in that.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney showed up at the G7 with a looming trade deadline and still couldn’t land a formal bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
While Carney says the two spoke “seven or eight times” in passing, the official schedule left him meeting French President Emmanuel Macron and India’s Narendra Modi, but not the U.S. president most critical to Canada’s trade talks.
