Foreign visitors rack up $40M hospital tab for Manitoba taxpayers

Nearly $40 million in unpaid medical bills from foreign visitors has been left to Manitoba taxpayers over the past five years, according to provincial data.

Foreign visitors have stiffed Manitoba’s healthcare system for nearly $40 million over the past five years, provincial data shows.

Manitoba was left with $39.62 million in unpaid medical bills from foreign visitors between fiscal years 2020-21 and 2024-25, according to a SecondStreet.org analysis of provincial health data.
