After a Lindsay, Ontario, man was charged with defending himself during a home invasion, Ontario Premier Doug Ford called for stronger self-defence rights in Canada, but a criminal lawyer says the responsibility lies with the federal government.

During a press conference in Hamilton on Wednesday, Ford said “something is broken” when discussing 44-year-old Jeremy McDonald, who was charged after defending himself from a home intruder at 3 a.m. on Monday.
