Trump can sink that plant before the first battery comes off the assembly line. One signed piece of paper and all batteries & EV cars sold in the US must be built in the US.
I expect there'll be an executive order to such sometime....oh....maybe about 1 day before or after the plant opens.... And as an Albertan, I'm going to laugh myself silly when it happens! Tax handouts to buy jobs in central Kanada....they deserve every bad thing that happens.
I remember when Ontario created the the ICON computer and associated software. The first machines were delivered in 1984. The schools hated them and within ten years they were scrapped.
The first ICON machines were delivered to Ontario schools in September 1984
Ontario's attempt to be a world-based supplier of educational computers and software was a complete failure. No one remembers this today. Will Ontario be a North American supplier of EV batteries? I doubt it. China is so far ahead of us in building EV batteries and cars that we can never catch up. That is why the government put a 100% tariff on Chinese cars. Ask the western farmers how well that is working out.
How much are we going to lose this time . Just running this country into bankruptcy . People don't want them and they are too expensive . You won't have a vehicle in this country in the near future . Just more smoke and mirrors for the gullible .
Remember fellow Ontario conservatives, Dougie boy and Carnage are campfire buddies, Dougie spouts off to the media to get a photo - op, but he also said he backs Carnage and the Federal Liebreals 100%. The federal EV mandates start in January 2026, only 3 months away…… do you not think that Dougie boy is truly on board with Carnage !!!
So is this another brilliant idea like the cricket factory? Taxpayer dollars at work and now bankrupt. Thanks Doug! Forget doctors, cleaning up our streets, reducing immigrant crime, increasing our police forces……..build a fricken’ cricket factory! Why does media omit this obvious example of Ford being a useless “Conservative” leader?
Old flip flop fatty is still at it. Flip flop, flip flop. People in ontario must really love him. He stands out in the news regularly. His main body features mouth and belly. HIs talk goes on and on, but none of it has any meaning as he contradicts himself daily.
Canadian exports 90 % of cars manufactured in Canada to US
US has for the most part abandoned subsidies to the EV industry and the EPA has rolled back their emissions targets substantially.
The US EV market has vaporized as has the less than important Canadian market.
US auto manufacturers have all but shuttered EV production as the market is simply not there.
Meanwhile in Canada we are 4 months away from mandatory 20% EV sales being placed on manufactures and car dealers, by Carney and the liberals. The government has been told by Vehicle manufacturers that this is not a viable plan and should be repealed. Other business groups have echoed this message as well. But still we have the mandates in place.!!!! Now government feels they know more than the those directly involved in the car industry...go figure?
Ford is blowing words out from both sides of his mouth. Being critical of the Federal Government over mandates for EV's followed by being extremely positive on a plant being built (tax payers subsidized) for a market that appears to have disappeared. In reality major US car manufacturers are reacting to tariffs by reducing production in Canada and moving factories south.
Carney is still on the Net 0 bandwagon.... If so, and he is such a believer in climate change, why has he (actually Trudeau but supported by Carney) put 100% tariffs on Chinese EV's, which are much less expensive than those manufactured in US or Europe? As a side point, if Canada was to convert wholesale to EV's we would need to finance 300 Billion into infrastructure and new power plants....Minimum build time for Nuclear Plant is 10 years. Canadian economy is broke as we are running deficits every year. The country cannot afford the infrastructure. The current interest on the debt now exceeds the military budget. As Kris Simms indicated, the interest payments are akin to burning down a billion dollar hospital every week.
In view of the above...why would the Canadian government back an industry that at the least has a limited chance of viability , given current market conditions.
One also has to look at the effect the tariffs on Chinese vehicles has on the vibrant Western Canadian 43 billion dollar Canola industry that produces jobs and profits. The retaliatory tariffs of 75% levied by the Chinese against Canadian Canola will or has already severely compromised the Canola Industry in Canada. China has already moved to Australia to source Canola and contracts have been signed as reported by news sources.
One has to wonder about the logic and/or critical thinking of the current government. And of course the government of the past 10 years.
Perhaps it is all politics to maintain a voter base in Ontario at the expense of the Liberal voter base in the west which much like the EV market is non existent.
Trump can sink that plant before the first battery comes off the assembly line. One signed piece of paper and all batteries & EV cars sold in the US must be built in the US.
Very true because the market here is almost non existent .
I expect there'll be an executive order to such sometime....oh....maybe about 1 day before or after the plant opens.... And as an Albertan, I'm going to laugh myself silly when it happens! Tax handouts to buy jobs in central Kanada....they deserve every bad thing that happens.

Who is paying for it? Canadian tax payers I am sure. If the plant is build, in time, it will be re-purposed to a amazon warehouse. LOL!
or maybe they will try again to make crickets our main meal....
It should just be a warehouse to start with - save us taxpayers a few bucks.
I can't wait for the factory to be bankrupt before it's even fully built or for Volkswagen to find a way to use the money elsewhere.
Some probably coming back to Dougie as well .

It's Doug Fraud..
The Liberal in PC clothing who never met a billion plus of taxpayer dollars he could not throw away.
... BUT WATCH ...
See what happens as "the wind" (as it is currently doing) shifts.
I have yet to meet a single person who wants or has any intention of buying an EV.
NOT A SINGLE PERSON.
After all .. That is how Fraud rolls.
Unless he's exiting his lane all together to interfere with things he has no control over.

Oh but the bowlful of jelly!
