Ford government wins appeal in bike lane battle

While the Ontario Court of Appeal's 3-0 ruling looks good and bodes well for the Ford government, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow says she will continue to push for alternative solutions.

The Ontario Court of Appeal ruled unanimously in favour of the Ford government’s call to overturn a previous court decision ruling that removing bike lanes in downtown Toronto would create an unconstitutional risk to cyclist safety.

The decision was in response to a plan to remove roughly 20 kilometres of bike lanes from the city’s downtown core, which stretches along Yonge Street, Bloor Street and University Avenue.
