Handouts do not lift people out of poverty. Canadians need real jobs with a decent income and lower taxes. Then, and only then, will the lineups at food banks go down. Carney is NOT 'the man.'

Call taxation what it is, EXTORTION!!!

cancel the carbon taxes on anything...these taxes are an excuse to increase immigrant employment in the CRA, and it is political muscle against Alberta.

the price of fuel (energy) would go down big time and diminish the cost of food transportation and eventually the cost of FOOD ! same with carbon-taxing farming, and so on. but the taxes are wanted by the il-liberals to spend on their trips and luxuries while travelling abroad !

In the meantime, the dairy cabal pours millions of litres of milk down the drain and destroys tens of thousands of eggs, etc. Utterly vile.

This communist makes me want to puke. More handouts, more money, more welfare, more freebies for jackarses who came to Kanada to leach off of us - 1. send the foreigners home; they have raised rents for all of us, caused massive congestion on roads, schools and hospitals. Get the He** out! 2. no more welfare, no more raising 'cheques' for handouts. Cancel all these programs, Kanada's biggest problem is lazy sob's not working; of course that would be easier if all the foreigners weren't here --> which depresses the price of labour. Get rid of the foreigners and suddenly that Tims job would pay a lot more than minimum wage....and food bank usage goes down. Government needs to stop trying to 'fix' markets, just get out of the damn way!

You called it exactly the way it is

Rather than a rebate program, why is not the basic personal tax exemption doubled? This would leave money in the pockets of the working poor and reduce the cost of sending out GST rebates to zero. There is zero reason a minimum wage earner should be paying any income tax at all in Canada as the basic personal tax exemption has not been kept commensurate with the devaluation of the value of an hour worked for minimum wage.

They can't do that. They need that money for their travels and personnel bank accounts.

Hmm my wage hasn't tripled in the last 15 years. But min wage sure has. Why should I have to keep paying more tax then them now that they're earning more?

So doubling or tripling the basic personal income tax exemption will not benefit you? How so?

Tom C.'s avatar

You said minimum wage earners should not be paying taxes. That was my reference.

Mr. Hetherington seems qualified and genuine but I do NOT agree with some of his ideology. He is a voice for the underprivileged but I personally know of Food Bank users that could be / should be out working and not sitting in the basement playing video games. Some need a helping hand to get back on their feet but some don’t want to do anything to help themselves. Throwing more benefits their way solves nothing. How about remove all GST on food so we all benefit?

Typical liberal stunt. Tax you $10 and give back 10cts. While that always worked good for the dumb arse voters just to make them think they're getting something else.

Looking to government to rescue everyone living in Canada that is hungry does nothing compared to having jobs and the income you need to have a decent life that includes a home and money to buy groceries. Government in Canada has no idea what success would look like as is evidenced from our past which looks much brighter than our future under the government of the United Nations waterboy with his green message that has failed all over the world and is destroying jobs for Canadians and creating problems for a lot of North Americans.

Get this clear. Any payments are not a refund of GST. The GST goes into general tax revenue which is already prespent . Carney has to borrow money to pay for any expenses over a balanced budget. I hope the leftist school systems are teaching debt management to the children who will have to pay for this debt that is used to pay for groceries that have long been eaten and excreted. Very similar to a pyramid scheme.

Call it what it is. It is not taxation, it is extortion. I would say at the very least most of western Chinada, did not vote in this Carnage Carnival Carney Cartel(New World Order). Yet here we are being run/ruined by this POS!!! We are extorted so our hard earned extorted funds are sent to their friends. Other criminals. Billions of taxpayer funds still going to the other criminal; Twitchy /Chrystia Freakland who was on both sides of the deal. Calling this taxation is BS!!!! It IS EXTORTION, Period, end of story!!! We are having our guns being taken away along with our freedom of speech!!! Fuck Carnage the fucker Carnival Carney and his tampons in the men’s room!!! Fuck him, like he has fucked Chinada with EV’s from China!!!

Go Alberta Go and then take the rest of western Canada with you. Please take Manitoba along too. I am with you and have Alberta flags on t-shirts and in my window in support!!! Get away from Canada!!! PC is just as useless!!!

A subject never addressed is the impact of credit on the cost of Food. Most stores today, do not own their inventory which means that as a customer, you are paying interest on everything you buy.

I would like to see a study on how much of consumer costs are carried interest, and how much of every purchase goes to the Banks. I suspect that this is a topic that our Central Banker does not want to talk about. (And this does not even get into bank charges on credit cards paid by the retail outlet)

There is also the role of Pay Day Loans with respect to poverty, and that many of the Pay Day Loan companies are owned by the Banks, something else our Central Banker does not want to talk about.

Thank you Mark and Neil, you guys are doing such amazing work!🙏

So yes, I have a sister who had a stroke 5 months after her husband passed away of early onset dementia which he had for 10 years, she is paying 2,200.00/ month for a unit in Grimsby and her monthly disability , oas and cpp add up to 1,400.00 /mo. It is so humiliating for her to depend on handouts every month, so her siblings and kids help out as much as possible but that is an extra cost for them/us each month (none of us work for the government except to pay ridiculous taxes!) the best help Carney and cronies could do here is eliminate the whole darn HST tax and then work on the rest of the crazy taxes we pay here in Canada!

GST rebates are yet another government system of control, of bullshiting Canadians into believing they are getting something for free! Most know exactly how Canada is being dragged into a nothing nation by this Carney led Marxist bunch of Liberal traitors. Until we rid ourselves of these Beijing loving idiots that follow Carney around like geese readying for southbound takeoff, reading any reports irregardless the origin are an upsetting waste of time and energy!!

Real jobs with real money. Check out how grocery giants deviously control local food markets and gouge shoppers.
