Finnish president encourages Canada to join the EU
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said he imagines a much larger European Union, and one that could include Canada.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb echoed recent talk about Canada joining the European Union, while discussing his relationship with Prime Minister Mark Carney during an interview with CBC News.
“I think Canada in terms of its whole composure, its value base, is so close to the European Union that the least we can do is to forge a really close strategic partnership,” Stubb told CBC News anchor Rosemary Barton on Tuesday. “I can envisage a much larger EU, whether Canada is a part of it or not is up to Canada to decide.”
