Alberta and the federal government are reportedly considering a fall decision on whether to designate a potential West Coast pipeline as being in the national interest, following parliamentary testimony noting that no designated projects have been approved to date.

Premier Danielle Smith says a new West Coast pipeline is key to expanding Alberta oil exports to Asia and addressing long-standing frustrations over federal environmental policies she argues have hindered resource development.
