A federally funded anti-Islamophobia education program expected to reach 50,000 people across Canada is being delivered by an Islamic lobby group that U.S. counter-extremism researchers allege is “aligned” with Muslim Brotherhood ideology.
Access to information records obtained by Juno News provide details on the $451,168 grant to expand anti-Islamophobia training for schools.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) received the funding for its “Pathways to Unity: Engaging Schools, Parents, and Communities Against Islamophobia” project, running from January 2025 through March 2026.
NCCM initially requested $999,668.48 to deliver the program.
The contribution agreement says the project would deliver 100 anti-Islamophobia workshops across Canada, reaching a projected 50,000 people, including students and educators. It would also equip “more than 500 Muslim parents” with skills to navigate what NCCM described as “systemic barriers in the education system.”
The project application includes national public-relations campaigns and activities NCCM described in its application as lobbying and policy work.
This week, the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP), a U.S.- extremism research hub, published the Islamism Beyond Islamists report examining what it describes as the growing “institutional influence” of Muslim Brotherhood-aligned organizations in Canada.
