Federal employees taking a School of Public Service course on systemic racism are being told they are “not here to debate,” with the curriculum warning participants that even ordinary disagreement with the politicized content can be viewed as “gaslighting.”

The optional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion course, “Advancing the Conversation on Systemic Racism,” is offered to all staffing levels. The course is part of an effort aimed at “changing attitudes and building awareness of systemic barriers to inclusion.”

The facilitator guide, reviewed by Juno News, repeatedly instructs course leaders to prevent participants from questioning core conclusions. It immediately tells facilitators to “highlight that we are not here to debate if racism and discrimination experienced by racialized and marginalized groups exists.”
