The Federal Court has frozen all current and future constitutional challenges to the Liberals’ sweeping new border law after a flood of similar cases strained court resources.
In a rare order, the court froze all Bill C-12 challenges and suspended their timelines pending case management, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
“The Federal Court has received a significant number of applications for leave and judicial review,” the Courts Administration Service said in a notice to lawyers.
“These applications raise substantially similar constitutional issues and seek similar relief,” the notice continued. “The volume and complexity of these proceedings are placing considerable demands on the Court’s judicial and registry resources.”
