Federal bureaucrats pocketed $201M in bonuses while missing half their targets

Federal bureaucrats rewarded themselves with more than $200 million in taxpayer-funded bonuses last year while missing nearly half of their own performance targets, raising fresh questions about Ottawa’s spending culture as Prime Minister Mark Carney promises to rein in government costs.
Access-to-information records obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation show 88 per cent of executives still received bonuses despite departments meeting only 54 per cent of their stated goals.
“Bonuses are for when you go above and beyond, so why are most government executives taking bonuses every year when their departments can barely pass their own test?” asked CTF federal director Franco Terrazzano.
