Fans fume as O Canada lyrics changed during World Series anthem
Political correctness struck out at Game 3 of the World Series when anthem singer JP Saxe altered the lyrics of the Canadian anthem, changing “Our home and native land” to “Our home on native land.”
Political correctness struck out at Game 3 of the World Series when anthem singer JP Saxe altered the lyrics of the Canadian anthem, changing “Our home and native land” to “Our home on native land.”
The video showing the change, posted on X by FOX Sports, featured comments filled with people expressing outrage.
“No JP Saxe, our home is NOT on native land and whoever told you that you could sing was lying to you,” said one X user.
While Game 3 of the World Series was underway at Dodger Stadium in California, JP Saxe was born in Toronto.
Despite a 2021 Grammy nomination for Song of the Year for If The World Was Ending featuring Julia Michaels, Saxe cancelled his August 2025 tour due to insufficient ticket sales.
Canada’s anthem was first created in 1880.
In January 2018, Parliament passed legislation by the late Liberal MP Mauril Belanger, which changed the lyrics of O Canada from “True patriot love in all thy sons command” to “True patriot love in all of us command” to “ensure gender parity,” according to the federal government.
The Liberals said no change was required for the French version.
The previously widely accepted English version, adopted in 1927, saw no changes until 2018.
The “home on native land” change made by Saxe is not based on an official change.
“As soon as he said “Our home ON native land” I switched it off!” said one user.
Those who didn’t turn the game off due to the anthem were in for a long night. The baseball game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes before the Blue Jays lost in the 18th inning.
Game 4 starts Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
Another Torontonian, Deborah Cox, will perform the Canadian national anthem tonight.

I am sick of people like this ( woke turds) butchering our national anthem, what gives him the right to do this, not to mention he is a terrible singer
If we were on their land we would be in Asia where they come from, everybody in Canada including the indigenous are immigrants or settlers from another country
