A former care worker who sexually assaulted multiple adults with intellectual disabilities under his care was granted unescorted prison absences last year, sparking criticism from a victim's family over a lack of direct notification from the justice system.

Brent Gabona, 56, is currently serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence after pleading guilty in January 2024 to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation of a person with a disability.
