Seven years ago, the federal government promised a temporary lifeline for Canada’s failing legacy industry.

That “temporary” help, which started as a $595 million package meant to last five years, is now a huge ongoing expense, costing taxpayers $170 million in 2025 alone according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
