Justin Van Rootselaar, who identified himself as the biological father of the Tumbler Ridge school shooter told Juno News that his son, Jesse Strang, never went by the name “Van Rootselaar.” He is demanding the RCMP clarify the shooter’s identity following their press conference on Wednesday.

RCMP identified the mass scooter in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. as 18-year-old male Jesse Van Rootselaar, who identified as trans.

Justin Van Rootselaar spoke to Juno News in an exclusive exchange on Thursday, claiming the shooter’s passport did not use the name Van Rootselaar and directly challenging the RCMPs statements on Wednesday about the shooter’s identity.
