EXCLUSIVE: Smith talks Iran war, says Carney majority “could help” get pipelines built
Smith gave an exclusive interview with Juno News discussing the prospects of a majority Liberal government, missed energy opportunities and the impacts of the Iran conflict.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said in an exclusive Juno News interview that Canada has faced decades of missed opportunities when it comes to energy development and that a majority government “certainly could help” get a pipeline built as long as Prime Minister Mark Carney remains dedicated to a path of cooperation.
Smith made the comments on Friday during an exclusive interview on Straight Up with Marc Patrone on Juno News.
The Alberta premier said several major pipeline proposals, like Energy East, Northern Gateway and Keystone XL, could have been completed “if we’d had a federal government that advocated on our behalf.”
As energy markets grapple with the Iran war, Canada missed out on 2.8 million barrels per day of oil.
“So there is a decade of missed opportunity. That being said, it takes a lot of effort to, especially with the minority government and the committee process, to try to undo all of those bad laws,” said Smith.
When asked about the Carney government’s efforts to achieve a majority government by attracting floor-crossers, Smith said it depends on Carney.
