I remember the Broadbent Institute back when S Harper was promising to substantially raise the limits on Tax Free Savings Accounts and the Broadbent fools ran a big campaign on how it only benefited the rich which was completely untrue as many people are forced to consider their house as their pension plan. When they retire with no private pension plan they need to sell the house and invest the proceeds in T-Bills to survive. Of course, the government taxes the interest immediately and reduces their already low income while government and public sector incomes do not have their earnings taxed until paid out.
Don't say they should put their money in RRSP's as there is a low tax or no benefit contributing going in and a higher tax benefit going out.
