EXCLUSIVE: Poilievre ignores supply management while pushing for “free-trade” with U.S.
Despite calls for a tariff “free-trade” deal with the U.S., Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre ignores questions about Canada’s own long-standing supply management tariffs and trade restrictions.
After U.S. President Donald Trump threatened sweeping 50 per cent tariffs on Canada citing “discriminatory trading practices,” Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called for a tariff-free trade deal with the U.S., but is ignoring questions about Canada’s own long-standing supply management tariffs and trade restrictions.
Poilievre has been explicitly calling for a tariff-free, free trade agreement with the U.S. since last year. Despite this, during the last election, he, along with every other party leader during the leaders’ debate in Montreal, Quebec, said that Conservatives support supply management and that it would be off the table during any trade negotiations with the Americans.
The official opposition leader did not respond to Juno News questions asking him to address Trump’s grievances and whether Conservatives would now offer to remove supply management policies which hinder “free trade” with the U.S.
