First of all I still don't understand why we are not asked to pay a small amount of money when we visit a doctor. $10 maybe. That would get rid of many freeloaders for one thing. Secondly you don't necessarily have to wait if you have a bit of courage. My last two family doctors I obtained by asking them directly if they would take me on as a patient. This was after I found myself without a doctor after moving to a new city. I had been told by the official department that I had to wait three years because I was not sick even though I was 80 years old! Same thing for specialists. I was on the waiting list for a year for an ophthalmologist, so I just phoned one and said I'd like an appointment and they said are you a patient and I said no but I really need to see someone and I was given an appointment for the next day. Right now I'm waiting for an MRI and I'm going to go to the hospital and see if I can push my name nearer the top, wish me luck!

I'm currently waiting to see a surgeon for a possible hip replacement. I'm told it could be up to 2 years before I see one not including waiting for the actual surgery AFTER I've seen the surgeon. This is unconscionable. I'm now waiting for them to advise MAiD for me instead. I wouldn't be surprised!!

I've been down that road, and when I finally got to see a surgeon, I was told that my pain wasn't bad enough. Instead, over several years, I've had 2 cortisone injections that did nothing for me and I'm still in pain, only worse now. Apparently you have to crawl in on your knees screaming in pain before anything gets done.
