After former Conservative MP Michael Ma suddenly crossed the floor to the Liberal party, a former volunteer protesting outside his constituency office alleged he only won his seat because constituents wanted a Conservative, claiming she and others feel “betrayed.”

Around 30 protesters, from both within the riding and the Greater Toronto Area, gathered outside Ma’s office on Saturday to voice their frustration over the former Conservative MP’s sudden change of allegiance to the Liberal government. Protests have been mounting since Ma’s move.

Identifying herself only as Angie, one woman told True North she had been a volunteer on Ma’s Conservative campaign team. She claimed that “nobody knew” Ma before the campaign and that his victory was solely due to constituents wanting to elect the Conservative party.

She said Ma betrayed her and everyone on the team, and showed True North a list of 100 names she had collected to get Ma nominated to run for the Conservative Party.
