EXCLUSIVE: CRA blocks release of tax credits claimed on journalists’ salaries

In response to an access to information request by Juno News on the tax breaks, the Canada Revenue Agency said it “can’t divulge” the information.

The Trudeau government’s tax subsidy for media outlets is shrouded in secrecy, with the Canada Revenue Agency refusing to disclose how much government-approved outlets are claiming for journalists’ salaries, citing privacy concerns.

In response to an access to information request sent by Juno News asking to identify which media outlets were claiming the Canadian Journalism Labour Tax Credit, the CRA said it “can’t divulge” the information.
