The Coptic community in Mississauga has raised a quarter million dollars toward building a new hospital in Mississauga, a spokesperson for the group told Juno News. The act of charity was a way for the Christian community to give back to the city they’ve called home for over five decades.

Ghada Melek, a community organizer and member of the Mississauga Coptic Christian community, told Juno News that the donation carries on a tradition of her community giving to the city, which its members have been in since the city was founded 50 years ago.

Melek said charity is a fundamental part of being Christian.
