EXCLUSIVE: Conservative MP backs repealing Bill C-4
MP Matt Strauss says he never saw the petition request, and calls activist Jeff Evely's accusations "insane and abusive." In fact, he vehemently opposes Bill C-4.

A Conservative MP is disputing claims that he refused to sponsor a House of Commons petition to repeal Bill C-4, saying he never saw the request and only learned of it after the activist behind the petition publicly accused Conservative MPs of having “our children’s blood” on their hands.
In a video posted this week, military veteran and Mayday Canada member Jeff Evely said Larry Brock became the most recent Conservative MP to decline authorizing House of Commons e-petition E-7314, which seeks to repeal or amend Canada’s conversion therapy law.
“Larry Brock just became the fourth so-called Conservative politician to decline to authorize House of Commons e-petition E-7314,” Evely said.
The activist claimed to have first approached Garnett Genuis, Leslyn Lewis and Matt Strauss, all of whom also declined to sponsor the petition.
Evely then alleges he and detransitioner Faith Grolo, one of Brock’s constituents, later hand-delivered letters to Brock’s constituency office outlining their concerns about Bill C-4, but says the petition was ultimately declined without explanation.
However, Strauss disputed Evely’s account, telling Juno News he never knowingly declined the petition because he never saw the sponsorship request.
“I am not a supporter of C-4,” Strauss said.
Strauss said he receives large volumes of petition sponsorship requests through the House of Commons website and has developed a practice of ignoring them because they arrive without meaningful subject lines and resemble “spam correspondence.”
