EXCLUSIVE: Audience discusses "infiltration" of the West at Islamic convention
Former South African ambassador urged Muslims to reject assimilation while promoting political activism and support for Islamic resistance movements
The former South African ambassador in the U.S. told the audience at the Muslim Association of Canada convention to reject assimilation, engage politically to “change the shepherd,” and support resistance movements abroad during a panel on developing society.
Speaking during a session titled “Proactive Muslims & the responsibility of developing our society,” an audience member asked how young Muslims could “infiltrate the Western wolves.” Although Rasool took issue with the term “infiltrate”, he rejected assimilation while encouraging participation in Western political institutions.
The question came following the pale titled “Proactive Muslims & the responsibility of developing our society.”
Ebrahim Rasool, ousted South African ambassador in the U.S. responded to the question saying: “We must integrate. Not assimilate. Not isolate. Integrate,” he said.
During the panel, Rasool laid out the “four Rs” of Islamic political engagement: “Revolt,” “Reform,” “Reconstruct,” and “Responsibility.”
