Still reeling from international mockery, the former prime minister found himself in the crosshairs of Enbridge CEO Greg Ebel.

“Everybody in the oil and gas business in Canada will do better,” Ebel said, adding that just two years ago the Liberal government was “actually trying to shut down the business.”

Among the more notable pipelines axed under recent Liberal governments are Northern Gateway, Keystone XL, and Energy East.

Without naming Trudeau, Ebel quipped at an ATB-sponsored Calgary Stampede roundtable that “a lot of those cats aren’t around for all the right reasons,” adding some were “out doing top 40 things with Katy Perry.”

He suggested that was “probably a better use of time for that individual,” earning a few chuckles from the audience and a brief round of applause.

However, the economic cost to the oil and gas sector is no laughing matter.
