An Edmonton academic who previously promoted “queer sex as a method to subvert rape culture” is preparing to host another K-12 education event to “mobilize queer joy” event at Alberta’s MacEwan University this fall.
JJ Wright of MacEwan’s Sociology and Gender Studies department delivered a presentation titled “Queer Joy as Disruption to Rape Culture” at a K-12 sex education event in 2024. The talk proposed that queer sex could serve to “subvert rape culture” and introduced “radical pleasure” as an alternative to conventional consent education models.
