An Edmonton business owner is accused of displaying terrorist imagery, praising terror groups, and distributing messages of mass violence, sparking major public safety fears and demands for a police investigation.
A popular pro-Jewish X commentator revealed the identity of the business owner on X.
Ayman Rayan, owner of CarTrendz, a custom wheel and tire shop in Edmonton, has repeatedly posted videos and images displaying slogans and figures linked to Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Both are designated terrorist organizations in Canada. The imagery has appeared not only online but also on a customized vehicle driven in public spaces in Edmonton.
Rayan has also posted recorded statements praising Hamas and celebrating the October 7 attacks in Israel. In videos filmed in Edmonton, he has been seen directing antisemitic slurs and derogatory language toward Jewish people. Some of his videos used an AI face changer to increase his nose size and showed him tormenting Israeli hostages and joking about murdering babies.
The most recent concern was triggered by an Instagram story posted to Rayan’s business account, cartrendzyeg, referencing the recent terrorist attack against Jewish people in Australia.
In the post, he said “The Israeli threat is now coming to your front doors. Australia being the example, don’t say we didn’t warn you.”
The post prompted widespread negative reactions, with many respondents calling for action from law enforcement and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).
“The ‘Israeli threat’ when it was islamists who planned and carried out the attack against Jews at Bondi Beach???!!! What kind of nonsense is this? Is he saying that he has been inspired by those terrorists to carry out something similar? Because that’s exactly what it sounds like he’s saying,” said one user. “@csiscanada Ayman Rayan should be on your watchlist.”
“Imagine if a white guy posted a threat like this against a mosque? They’d have an ERT team blowing up their walls and dragging them off to prison. But these Islamic terrorists can do and say whatever they want without consequence,” said another.
Rayan also posted a video of him being questioned by a police officer, but he simply drove away mid-conversation with seemingly no reprimand.
A spokesperson for Alberta’s Public Safety and Emergency Services told True North the province works closely with law enforcement to protect all communities from hate-motivated violence.
“Operational decisions are made independently by police services based on evidence, risk, and applicable law. Police determine whether investigative or enforcement action is warranted. The province does not direct police operations,” said the spokesperson.
True North reached out to the Edmonton Police Service but was unable to receive a substantive reply by the provided deadline.
