Eby retreats on DRIPA suspension amid First Nations pressure
In a brief statement, the premier’s office confirmed that no legislation related to the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) will be introduced before the session ends.
B.C. Premier David Eby’s office is now saying the NDP government will not move forward with any changes to its cornerstone Indigenous rights law this legislative session, following reports of internal discussions about suspending parts of the policy.
In a brief statement, the premier’s office confirmed that no legislation related to the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) will be introduced before the session ends.
“(The Premier’s office) can confirm that the government will not be introducing legislation on DRIPA during this session,” the statement reads.
