True North spoke exclusively to a man who witnessed a shooting in downtown Oshawa that resulted in another man being hospitalized on Wednesday evening.
The resident, who spoke to True North anonymously and provided video of the incident, said it was “rare and uncommon” to see a shooting in the city’s downtown core while adding the incident fits within a broader trend of lawlessness in the area.
“It’s not typical to see a shooting in Oshawa but all of these people have knives and other ‘melee’ weapons,” he said, in reference to a growing homeless and transient population that tends to congregate along Oshawa’s main thoroughfare on Simcoe Street.
The Oshawa resident described seeing one person lift up their waistband to reveal a gun to another individual. It wasn’t clear if the gun was real, he said, until the shooting began.
Durham Regional Police said the incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the area of Simcoe Street South and John Street East.
According to a police media release, officers found a male victim who had been shot and was taken to a local hospital with “serious, non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police are currently looking for two suspects who fled the area prior to police arrival.
The first suspect is described as “a male wearing a black baseball hat, black jacket, red hooded sweater, red pants, and black shoes.”
The second suspect is described as “male, with long dread-style hair.” He was wearing a light-coloured hat, bright blue jacket with black shoulders and a white logo on the rear right shoulder, and dark pants with a white stripe down the side.
Anyone else who witnessed the incident or has cell phone, dash cam, and surveillance footage is asked to contact Detective Baldini of the Central East Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2765.

From the detailed witness description, right down to dreadlocked hair, it's quite apparent the perps' skin colour is also known.
Why is that not in the article? Is True North going politically correct?
