One of the only things factual Ford has said in resent times, and now he wants take it back. WHY! The truth is the truth, but the natives can't or won't admit it. They are totally reliant on the taxpayer. If they aren't, then stop the billions of $$$ paid to them every year. The country could use it for some decent health care.
Unfortunately, the Indigenous are Canada’s version of India’s sacred cows. They’re to be worshipped and coddled. We can’t touch anything that might concern them.
The more people say it out loud it will gain traction and we will have a balanced relationship with FN. Until we stop giving them $$, there will be no balance or end of the grift. I am sad Ford walked back. I applaud the independents in BC - Tara Armstrong and Dallas Brodie who are sticking to their stance on this. More please!
Right on John, the indigenous industry has secured billions from taxpayers, I know of one individual who has profited from working for them. I don't believe our and their four fathers wanted this welfare state we are in now!
The solution is simple, divide the reserves equally amongst the inhabitants and give them deeds to the property. They will treat it as their own and the reserve will become more productive and the people more self sufficient. They are presently living in a lord - serf society where the tribal leaders control everything and everyone.
Very true . Here years ago the chief on the reserve was taken to court for taking money and went to jail . The next election for Chief when he was released he ran and was voted back in !
Standard Operating Procedure. Any comments made about first nations that are less than complementary are immediately held up as wrecking reconciliation and are racist, etc.
Then, humiliating public apologies are called for, although in this particular case, the politician, Ford, is so well trained that he didn't have to wait for the inevitable demand, and he jumped to apologize on his own. Pavlov would applaud the fns for having achieved remarkable response from the goofs who rule us.
Robert Angus: So right. We 'settlers/land thieves' are expected to bow our heads in shame with every 'land acknowledgment' at every public meeting/event across the country. Also keep paying at least lip service to yet another claim of 'anomalies' detected at yet another former residential school. Blocked roads and work sites by drum beating, wailing members of one of the 600-plus"First Nations"? Be patient, don't provoke, don't expect law enforcement to actually enforce.
The double standards in this country are beyond pathetic regarding Indigenous and non-white 'minorities'. With rare exceptions, the political class - across all jurisdictions - are quick to adhere to the established - but unwritten - rules of conduct. Doug Ford, in addition to being a profoundly inept and hypocritical premier, is one of the worst for coddling the 'special' groups among us.
Yes they were paid 12 million to dig up and investigate these so called marked graves but have done nothing so where is the money . We know why they didn't do any digging and now they are playing that game again . How much will we give them again ?
Once again the process is more important than the outcome. The process employs lawyers, consultants, negotiators, and researchers. The longer the process takes the the less we get and months or years pass with no decisions. The outcome provides work and product that earn large amounts of support to those who are employed. What's your pick?
That is the card anyone who is called out plays 'Racism' The Indians have gotten 2-3 trillion dollars over the years . Yes trillions . They have their reserves and and many benefits that other citizens don't get and can only dream of . But it is never enough . The government needs to bring them into the real world .
I agree with Ford's first statement - they cannot keep coming with hat in hand. I went to UBC in the 1980s and already then, if you were a first nations or indigenous person, you didn't have to have the same marks as I did in order to pass. Fair?? No. What exactly is stopping our First Nations peoples from making a decent living in Canada?? CMHC keeps pumping money into the reservations for housing, and the houses are destroyed or not kept up, and rebuilt at taxpayers expense. My friend's neighbour, has a Native card, which exempts them from taxes...they have a house, cottage, houseboat, motorboat, seadoo, several cars, truck, etc etc. Remember when the Japanese peoples were compensated for their being imprisoned in Canada during WW2? To the best of my memory, they were given money and they said thanks, and no more was said, period.
of course he was right but being a typical politician he back peddled, the truth is the truth and we cannot afford to continue the double standard, somebody has to tell them "you can't have your cake and eat it too" and have the balls to make it stick
Why is that fat fraud so enthusiastic about the Ring of Fire? It’s not even owned by Canada - it was sold to Wyloo Metals, run by an Australian billionaire, long ago. Wyloo also owns the Eagle's Nest project, touted as the largest high-grade nickel discovery in Canada. Ford must be expecting kickbacks! He doesn’t do anything that won’t put money in his pocket.
Shows how much you read. This garbage mouth has no right to be looking after a Province the size of Ontario or any other province. His brother said people should not trust him. Now Ontario 1/2 Trillion dollars in dept and going nowhere!!
Why?? He was right.

But was he wrong?
Hat in hand let's try wheel barrow or pick up truck to pick up Canadian taxpayer $$$$$$.

Support an industry based on false claims and story narratives? No thanks.

I would not accept one Apology from Ford he is a lying Slug and always been.
Does nothing for the province of Ontario except put Major Debt on the people’s back. Won’t do a thing unless something is in it for him‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
He has no reason to apologize
