The Ford government is set to significantly reduce transparency by shielding cabinet ministers and their offices from public Freedom of Information requests, citing updated cybersecurity rules and a “privacy framework.”
The Ontario government announced Friday morning that it plans to “update” its Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act timelines and processes in part by “excluding cabinet ministers and their offices from FOI requirements.” The government says the move will “more closely align Ontario with the approach taken by other jurisdictions in Canada.”
