Asked whether he’d endorse Olivia Chow for a second term as mayor, he proceeded to pontificate about their great relationship and what a good job she’s done.
“The mayor and I have a phenomenal relationship, phenomenal,” he said, his mouth working before the brain kicked in. “She’s done a phenomenal job … we’re going to keep supporting her.
”So read between the lines,” he added.
What’s really astounding was how Ford spoke of a mayor who has done a phenomenal job of turning the city into a third-world nightmare, who represents everything he’s supposed to be against.
Nevertheless, those who witnessed his latest foot-in-the-mouth moment did “read between the lines.”
The allegedly Conservative Premier was endorsing not only an NDP mayor for her second term in next month’s election but an incompetent one at that.
Chow is soft on crime, she has allowed antisemitism to fester unchecked in Toronto, and she’s pushed bike lanes and a war on the car — plus the idea of feeding addicts their poisons at safe injection sites.
Her presence at community events dressed in the appropriate costume of her visible minority hosts — often while dancing drunk — has made the U.S. media. She is regularly an embarrassment.
The reaction to his endorsement/non-endorsement was fast, furious and angry.
Disgusted Ford supporters vowed to never vote for him again or to support the Conservatives.
It was so intense that 32 hours later, his office figured they’d better run interference.
A statement was put out saying his Wednesday comment was not an endorsement and that he’d never endorse any candidate running for Toronto mayor.
Sure.
He even appeared on NewsTalk 1010 on Friday morning, where he was lobbed softballs by guest host, former mayor and fellow Old Boy John Tory — the original architect of Toronto’s decline.
Instead of apologizing for his allegedly misleading comments, he blamed all of us for misinterpreting what he said.
But we didn’t.
Ford has become a dangerous combination of idiocy and ego.
He has proven not to be an insightful thinker.
He has blustered his way through the trade talks with the U.S., pissing off President Donald Trump’s inner circle with his childish antics and boorish comments.
Thinking he’s untouchable, he speaks before he thinks but never appears to regret his caustic comments.
His popularity is amongst the lowest of all provincial Premiers, despite the bump he experienced with his trade war talk (proving there are many Ontarians as dumb as him).
He had every intention of endorsing Chow.
In fact, I still suspect he and his minions (Kory Tenycke and Nick Kouvalis) were behind pushing Chris Alexander into the race to try to split the vote.
Alexander has been bluffing his way through the campaign since he joined the mayoral race at the end of July.
The highly ambitious (but certainly not bright or insightful) Ford thinks a weak, drunken mayor will permit him to remain the King of Ontario and Canada’s largest city.
In other words, he can still rule Toronto from Queen’s Park. He can feed her insatiable desire for more tax money while getting what he wants.
Except his ego is so big, his move backfired on him.
In a perfect world, Alexander would drop out, and Bradford would catch up to Chow.
Not that the legacy media want that to happen.
While Bradford is not a perfect choice, I would like to see a mayor who could break the radical left lock on council.
Besides, we don’t need two buffoons running Toronto City Hall.
I’m talking about both Chow and Ford.
