Ontario Premier Doug Ford is urging Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to take a hard public stance against Alberta’s independence movement, calling separatist outreach to U.S. officials “unacceptable"
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is calling on Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to publicly denounce Alberta’s independence movement, escalating tensions between provincial leaders.
Ford condemned reports that Alberta independence advocates met with U.S. officials in Washington, arguing that any effort to engage foreign governments outside of Ottawa’s authority is unethical and undermines Canadian unity.
Smith, however, refused to demonize supporters of independence, noting that polling suggests as many as 30 per cent of Albertans — roughly one million people — have lost faith in Confederation. She said many of those citizens have legitimate grievances and should not be dismissed or marginalized.
Jeff Rath, co-founder of the Alberta Prosperity Project, rejected accusations of treason and foreign interference, saying meetings with U.S. officials were transparent and focused on exchanging information, not securing foreign support. He accused Ford of attempting to shame Smith into silencing a growing political movement.

Doug Ford has become a sad, bloated joke. It's astonishing. I actually heard him use the phrase "It's unethical", when referring to the Alberta separatist movement. He said that out loud. On camera!
Doug Ford! The same Doug Ford who took his entire provincial Party across the floor to the Liberals and continues to campaign for them. Carny at least, has only purchased two traitorous Conservatives. So far, anyway.
This, aside from the standard, "It's all Trump's fault and Danielle Smith needs to stand with TEAM CANADA.
Of course, the whole "Team Canada' thing, in his mind, is only invoked when talking about what he and his boss, Mark Carny wants. Never though, when talking about what Alberta needs. Pipelines.
Government cooperation instead of constrictions and restrictions.
Danielle Smith has been fighting tooth and nail for Alberta since she became Premier. She is as of today, the finest, most eloquent politician in Canada, at any level, provincial or national. There is no one, in either national party who would make a better Prime Minister. I state these obvious things in spite of and in the face of our worthless MSM who toe the Lunatic Liberal party line. And throughout her struggle, she has never wavered from her stance on being against separation, holding on to her belief that Canada can be fixed.
And this beer-soaked, bloated, bovine from Toronto has the nerve to tell her she must join him and Carny? Where are the Team Canada Pipelines Doug? East or west. Where did you get the $1.2 bn for your worthless, dead-on-delivery gun grab Mark? The last $2 bn laundered by Freeland in Ukraine? And those untold hundreds of billions in the current SNC Lavelin pipeline for the unneeded, demanded-by-no -one, doomed-to-failure, high speed rail from Quebec City to Toronto. Undoubtedly, the largest single pork barrel in Canadian political history. We could have used some of that to get pipelines going.
So you want to keep criticising Danielle Smith Doug? Pick another target. She's out of your league.
