U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin said that the Carney government’s deal with Beijing to import electric vehicles made in China could further hurt trade talks with America due to concerns over national security.

Slotkin, who introduced a bill to ban the import of Chinese EVs in the U.S., made the comments when asked by CBC News anchor Rosemary Barton how Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision would affect Canada-U.S. trade relations.
