United Conservative MLAs are facing a growing threat as angry citizens launch recall campaigns across Alberta, with signatures already being gathered in two ridings.
This appears to be nothing more than an assault on Premier Smith, almost certainly arranged by the Federal Liberals using yet another of their NDP lap dogs, Naheed Nenshi. This strategy has worked well for them in the past. First, with JagMeat Singh, then, David Eby, and now with Nenshi.
"Operation total recall" sounds like any other cringeworthy political invention - such as "elbows up" or "The Longest Ballot Committee". There are no hordes of Albertans calling for Smith's replacement or lining up to mount recalls of every Conservative MPP. That concept is patently ridiculous.
Danielle Smith is arguably the most popular and admired politician in Canada. This whole operation reeks of Liberal manipulation.
And it shows exactly how frightened they are of her.
More abuse and distortion of a policy designed to oust an MLA for wrongdoing or dereliction of duty. Recall is not to be used by vindictive unions that are overtly partisan. I liken this to the ridiculous electoral fraud in Poilievre’s ridings.
Is this kind of the Alberta equivalent of the idiots, fools and morons who launched the "longest ballot initiatives" against PP in the last Federal election?
You know what they can do with their PoS recall attempts don't you.
There are several places where the sun never shines.
Well this needs to be watched closely for fraud . Follow the money behind this . I said Carney was working on Alberta leaving and he is doing that . Is there really that many stupid voters who would vote out the only party with a chance to save them . This smells to high heaven using the teachers strike . Most would have been happy they were sent back to work . This country is so corrupt it is hard to watch the ignorance unfold . There is no way they can get 50-60% of people to sign this nonsense . I imagine the RCMP will be the canvassers .
This is clearly and blatantly a politically movitvated attack by the ATA and other unions against the UCP. Unions have become a festering cancer on Canadian taxpayers the economy and society....We need a "Total Recall" operation against all Alberta NDP MLAs....I did some checking on the actual estimates of the financial costs to recall only ONE targeted candidate. This is what I found....
The entry application fee to begin the process is $500. The actual cost determined by Elections Alberta to cover printing, preparation, and administration and exact figure isn't fixed, it would likely run into thousands of dollars.
The Largest Cost is for the Recall Vote. This is by far the most significant expense. If the petition is successful (gathers enough signatures), the Chief Electoral Officer must conduct a recall vote. The petitioner is responsible for a $25,000 deposit.
The actual full cost of running a constituency-wide vote (hiring staff, renting venues, printing ballots, mail-outs, etc.) is enormous. It is estimated to be several hundred thousand dollars (some estimates range from $200,000 to $500,000+, on the size of the constituency).
While the democratic right to recall an MLA exists, the practical reality is that the costs are prohibitively high for most grassroots groups or disgruntled individual citizens. A successful recall campaign would require not only immense public support but also the backing of a well-funded organization (ATA, AUPE, public sector unions) willing to risk a quarter-million dollars or more on the outcome of a single vote.
There is no way that the average citizen would be able to afford the cost of recalling a MLA let alone have the resources necessary for processing, running a consituency office, dealing with Elections Ablerta, printing, preperartion etc, etc....After calculating all of the above costs, then multiply that by the number of UCP candidates that this recall campaign is targeting, is an incredible amount of money......
It is obvious that this is not a grass roots movement but a concentrated, concerted effort of a political attack against the UCP by the Union(s) and perhaps NDP. Another consideration is what if the unions and NDP are also receiving funding for thier recall petitions from the federal government?....After all, it would be in the best interests of the Carney Liberals to have an NDP government in power in Alberta.......The only thing that is certain is that this recall campaign is hardly citizen driven or grassroots.....It stinks to heaven of organized union/NDP initiated political interference and politically motivated attack on the UCP government.......
Together they have done a pretty good job of locking us into poverty producing, ostensibly green, policies. All of which enrich them and their buddies. They have a great scam going, that's for sure.
In reference to a previous comment the LPC has registered considerable success over the years by counting on the stupidity of the average Canadian. Add that to the simple strategy of lying to the voters and you have Canada circa 2025. Examples? Numerous, but the postal situation is a case in point. Harper in 2015 “ we have to fix the post office to make it sustainable”. Trudeau” support the unions and leave everything the same.” They are going to stick with this strategy regardless of the consequences for Canada.
The diper unions will do anything to try destroying conservatives. It seems that they figure they are the only people who matter. The teachers work maybe 5 months of the year and get paid a huge wage for twelve months. And a good percentage of them aren't worth a wage.
I've noticed that people who think of themselves as academic or educated and work seasonally, often have a smug, narrow view of reality. Additionally, teachers tend to be badly infected by the woke mind virus. Which is simply evil at work.
mmm, and here I thought it was unanimous that Albertans were strong and going to separate! Our precious AB will not be seceding Canada, because they were told to go to their room. AB is no different then any other province in this country...no different then Quebec, Ont., BC or the maitime's. Canadians need to realize the Trojan horse has been in country for decades and has been quietly infiltrating our minds and dreams every night since WWII. This Trojan horse was called socialism, apathy, compliance, political correctness, DEI, SOGI etc, and weak minds can easily be brainwashed and indoctrinated into believing Canada is the greatest place on earth. We are all just political test subjects. They won, we lost!

I agree!!! What is up with the unions?? They are acting like a hanging mob! They are radical activistists under the guise of a union!! So bizarre!!!

Sounds like a good home for them.

The lpc loves to throw our tax dollars at stinky projects like this. Gives them plenty of opportunities to 'lose track' of where the money went.
Ipc??...
Liberal party of... Carney?
Exactly...Just like it was when Trudeau was Liberal leader and dictator, so too is Carney......

You certainly pegged that right.
