A Canadian university AI research chair job posting has ignited a firestorm on social media, exclusively seeking candidates who “self-identify as women with a disability or gender equity-seeking persons with a disability.”
According to the job posting, the position was closed to new applications on June 30th but it is unclear who has filled the position.
Independent Journalist Chris Brunet first shared a screenshot of the job posting on X which led it to going viral on Saturday.
The viral post drew criticism from politicians, and political commentators.
Conservative MP Vincent Neil Ho reacted to Dalhousie’s job posting saying “this taxpayer funded job description sounds more exclusionary than inclusive.”
He argued that “DEI must be dismantled and meritocracy restored, Canada’s competitiveness and future are at stake.”
Neil is a member of the science committee which brought Gad Saad to testify last week on the effects of DEI on research credibility in Canada.
During Saad’s testimony, he criticized the University of Waterloo’s hiring criteria for a research chair position, only hiring candidates who “self-identify as women, transgender, gender-fluid, non-binary, or two-spirit”.
The University has not yet replied to a True North inquiry on whether the position has been filled.
Well, that narrows down the field….Canada is very quickly becoming a country where the only ones that we can hire are dumb and dumber. Holy Cow , we’ll get some artificial intelligence all right- how the hell did we get here? Total madness!!
At this rate, Canada is gonna go from 37th to 337th just like the ports.
