Innocent until proven Guilty? Not in Canada. If we were able to sue for False Arrest (unlawful/illegal Arrest) I bet these cases would not occur with the same frequency. Why is there not a full investigation followed by a conference between Police and Crown Prosecuter to decide if there is a reason to file a charge before arrest? Instead I bet this guy is out 10's of thousands of dollars, damage to reputation as well as lost wages (or lost job). Innocent or not he is now on their database and will show up everytime he has an interaction with police.

In a country whose supposed Charter of Rights and Freedoms seems to offer little of either these days it's good to see that every once and a while the right thing happens.

This decision was absolutely the right decision.

... NOW ...

Can OntArWeOwe and Canada please make a considerably larger number of those?

Did the officers want to charge him or will they be in trouble with the brass if they don't? I trust cops to know this was BS to charge him, so why did they? In the 70s, the fellow wouldn't have been charged. This wasted his time and money, but the public's taxes, and reduced public safety by scaring citizens about using self defense.

One of the few correct stances by ford's government.

Hope Carney’s crowd in Ottawa and the politically muzzled judiciary all chip in to pay all this man’s legal bills!!

What a public disgrace to Canada!!

This man should NEVER have been charged! Canada no longer has a "justice" system - countless examples of innocents being persecuted by the tyrants in our governments. This man and many others have suffered so much and never compensated for their grief and loss.
