Court documents reveal crossbow used in viral Ontario home invasion

The August 18 confrontation left both the alleged intruder, 41-year-old Michael Kyle Breen, and the resident, 44-year-old Jeremy David McDonald, facing charges.
According to newly filed records, Breen is charged with four counts, including break-and-enter and carrying a weapon—the crossbow—to commit an offence.
He is also accused of destroying a window and screen at McDonald’s home before entering.
Police said a fight broke out inside the residence, leaving Breen with life-threatening injuries that required him to be airlifted to a Toronto hospital.
McDonald was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, alleged to be a knife.
He was released pending a court appearance set for September 25.
Court documents reviewed this week also show Breen and McDonald lived less than 600 metres apart and knew each other before the incident.
A Lindsay court docket reviewed by the CBC showed that Breen had multiple run-ins with the law, including charges of failure to comply with a probation order and failure to attend court.
Breen, who was already on probation at the time, has multiple outstanding criminal cases and was wanted by police for other offences when the break-in occurred.
Breen will have a bail hearing next week.

The current scheme of charging anyone for self defense should be amended to the following.
Any self defense action should be based on the same criteria that the nation gives police. We have all heard of a situation where a perp charges a police officer aggressively with a knife, or stick and is put down in a heartbeat in a hail of bullets.
Any other criteria isn't justice, or laws, it is in fact arbitrary punishment to keep the citizens in their place.
Pic changed to a crossbow. But I suspect the weapon the intruder had in his possession, was maybe one of the much smaller ones that could be used with one hand. Something akin to breaking in and having a pistol instead of a rifle. Comments from the crossbowers out there?
