An unnamed 16-year-old and 21-year-old Muhammad Rahman are both facing charges after a violent carjacking turned into a home invasion in Bowmanville earlier this week.
Durham Regional Police say the incident happened around 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the area of Maple Grove Road and Nash Road.
Investigators allege a suspect entered a garage, threatened a woman with a knife and demanded her vehicle.
Police say the victim was chased around the garage before she dropped her keys and ran into her home, screaming for help.
Her husband intervened, but he too was chased before the couple managed to get through a door into the house and lock it.
Police say the suspect then fled in the woman’s vehicle, while a second suspect escaped in a separate car that had followed the victim home.
The force’s helicopter later spotted the stolen vehicle and the getaway car travelling westbound along Highway 401.
Officers tracked both vehicles into a parking lot near McNicoll Avenue and Mogul Drive in North York, where police say the drivers switched into the stolen vehicle. Members of the DRPS Project Attire Auto Theft Unit then blocked the car in and made arrests.
No injuries were reported.
Police have Rahman with multiple offences including robbery with an offensive weapon, break and enter, disguise with intent, and dangerous driving.
A 16-year-old Toronto male faces the same slate of charges.
Both suspects were held for a bail hearing.
