Durham police announced that a convicted human trafficker, currently in federal prison, faces a dozen new charges for allegedly trying to continue his operation and recruit women while incarcerated.
Kemoy Chisholm, 35, who is already serving a five-and-a-half-year sentence for human trafficking, is accused of contacting previous victims through Instagram and by phone from inside a penitentiary earlier this year.
The force’s human trafficking unit began investigating in March 2025 after receiving information that Chisholm was attempting to procure new victims from prison.
Two additional women have since told police that between 2018 and 2020, Chisholm coerced them into performing sex acts for money, posting online advertisements, setting prices and taking the proceeds.
Police have additionally alleged that Chisholm transported women to British Columbia to expand his sex trade business, mirrored a victim’s cellphone to monitor her activity and forced one woman to surrender her Canada Emergency Response Benefit payments to him.
A judge’s order has now led to 12 additional charges against Chisholm, including trafficking in persons, procuring, receiving a material benefit from sexual services, advertising sexual services and withholding or destroying travel documents.
